Just recently, a friend of mine asked me for some help with the technicalities of his blog. The blog is filled with a lot of Premium Themes and Plugins packaged inside the amazing Impact Instrument – a powerful product package of The Unity Network. So Here is Step-by-Step On-Page SEO Guide for Impact Instrument Users.
In case that you don’t know, Impact Instrument is powered by WordPress – a Content Management System (CMS) or shall we say a Blogging Platform that powered the 25% of websites around the globe.
In this blog post, I am going to share with you the step-by-step On-Page SEO to your Impact Instrument blog. But before that, let’s talk about what is On-Page SEO and what is its advantage to you as a professional blogger.
What is On-Page SEO?
On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized, as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other external signals. Source: Moz
In simple term, On-Page SEO is basically a procedure to make your website Search Engine Friendly. Meaning, it can be easily be crawled by search engine robots and index it to the database of Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other search engine companies.
How to Do It Inside Impact Instrument?
Technically, based on the structure WordPress and Impact Instrument is almost the same but they don’t have the same color scheme. The default WordPress Admin Dashboard is colored in dark grey and white-grey while Impact Instrument is colored in red and white-grey. No big deal at all. Lol! 😀
But there is one thing that I also discovered, you can’t add a new plugin for an additional feature. I don’t know the real reason yet, (I think for security purposes, I am not sure) but at least it already has the basic plugin for SEO purposes. So it is good to still for me.
Anyway, we will not focus on the things that we don’t have the control here and let’s get started.
1. Setup Your Permalink Settings.
The permalink is the structure of the link or URL of your website’s pages. For SEO purposes, you need to make it more close to your keyword so that you can easily rank that specific page to your desired keyword term.
To do this, go over the “Settings” tab in the left side of your Impact Instrument Dashboard and click “Permalinks“.
Once you are on the Permalink Settings page, click the “Post name” radio button and click the Blue Save Changes button to save your settings.
2. Allow Search Engines Index Your Blog.
Yes, it is necessary that your website should be indexed to Google if you want to rank your website to the Google Search Engine Result Page (SERPs) or other search engines like Bing and Yahoo.
To do this, still on the Settings tab, click the “Reading” link and once you are on the page, go over the Site “Visibility” option then click “Allow search engines to index this site” radio button and finally click the Save Changes button.
3. Setup Google Analytics.
Before you can setup the Google Analytics settings in your Impact Instrument, you need to have a Google Analytics account. To be guided on how to create a Google Analytics account, go over this page called “The Step by Step Guide to Setup Google Analytics in WordPress for Beginners“.
Let’s assume that you already setup your Google Analytics account for your blog and you already have the Google Analytics Tracking ID, still go over the “Settings” tab and click the Google Analytics menu.
Once you are on the page, paste your Tracking ID in the Site Tracking Code box.
P.S. You can leave the Authorize option above the Site Tracking Code setup. It will just repeat the process if you do so.
4. Install and Setup Yoast SEO Plugin.
Yoast SEO is the most recommended SEO Plugin for WordPress. It is a must-have SEO plugin if it doesn’t any conflict with other plugins and your theme. In the Impact Instrument case, it works very fine because all the themes and plugins packaged inside has already been tested so let’s get started.
To install Yoast SEO, go over the Plugin tab in the left side of your dashboard, click the SEO menu to see the Yoast SEO Plugin and Activate it.
After you clicked the Activate link, let’s go setting up the plugin accordingly. This time, I will just share to you a YouTube video on how to use the plugin to your Impact Instrument blog.
If you noticed, the dashboard is in WordPress but it is still okay and works fine as Impact Instrument is powered by WordPress. So no big deal to that. Let’s get started.
Afte setup basic functionalities in Yoast SEO Plugin, let’s work on optimizing your page or your post to make it search engine friendly.
5. Search Engine Optimized Your Post/Page.
Every page or post of your blog should be search engine optimized, index or noindex. All of those settings can be found inside the SEO Yoast options below your post/page. So if you will update a new blog post or page in your blog, scroll down a bit and you will see the Yoast SEO options.
Yoast SEO is not only for search engines, you can also set up your post or page to make it social media sites friendly.
What do I mean is that, if you paste a link in your Facebook status sometimes you can see that the link doesn’t generate images or direct link to your page or post.
If you can see the image above, you will notice that it is really ugly right? The fact is that it will really don’t get any attention-grabbing effect if a Facebook user can see the post.
So to make it highly-converting, Yoast SEO include the Social Media settings
About the content, you can just copy the content from your meta titles and descriptions. Take note on the recommended size – 1200 × 630px.
After that, go setup for Twitter as well. The content could be the same as your Facebook settings – it’s all up to you. After this review your settings and click the update/publish button.
CONGRATULATIONS! You just did the basic On-Page SEO for your Impact Instrument blog. Since there are some restrictions in Impact Instrument which you can’t add a new plugin, I will not mention any SEO Plugin. Maybe next time, we can suggest to the owners of the company.
I hope that you learned something or two from this tutorial. if I something that I forgot, you can comment below. Let’s exchange ideas and conversation.
